St Jean Cap Ferrat

Down on the port of Villefranche a path leads to Saint Jean Cap Ferrat right to the top of the cap where lies the villa Ephrussi de Rothshild, built between 1905 and 1912 by the baroness Ephrussi de Rothshild. The villa is extraordinary with its gardens and musical fountains overlooking the Rade de Villefranche on the western side and the bay of Beaulieu on the eastern side of the Cap, from where you can see a beautiful greek villa Kerylos.
The ancient property of the King Leopold of Belgium has a garden that shelters an important collection of plant oils. Today it is the property of the House Marnier Lapostolle known as the maker of the liqueur Grand Marnier, and some of its plants used in the making of this liqueur come from that garden.
The Villa Santo Sospir built in 1931 in a typical mediterranean style on the western side of the cap was decorated by the famous painter and writer Jean Cocteau a friend of the owner Francine Weisweiller.
The Cap Ferrat is alive with memories of very well known personalities who owned property or were guests in these properties. Such as Charlie Chaplin, Prince Rainier of Monaco, David Niven, Jean Cocteau, Romy Schneider, Winston Churchill, and many other celebrities.
Property on Saint Jean Cap Ferrat is of the prime nature, allowing for only a select few to own some.
