St Paul de Vence

Saint Paul de Vence a small fortified town situated high above Antibes, is a rocky promontory in the provencal country side. Like many of these fortified places, they are circular and protected by ramparts with loopholes through which you can view far down below the terraced gardens planted with lemon and olive trees. In the distance the sea illuminates the whole scenery.
It is an intriguing walk through the narrow cobbled streets, lined with charming old stone houses, cheerfully brightened with hanging flowers in their windows. Fascinating little boutiques full of local products : honey, olives, jams, soaps, and provencal fabric, all arranged in a delightful way, mingle with art galleries, as the whole area inspires a great deal of artists, the whole place is full of southern fantasy.
As you wander through the streets you will arrive to one of the most famous Auberge on the Cote d’Azur : L’Auberge de la Colombe d’Or, where a beautiful shaded terrace awaits you to taste a wonderful meal and enjoy an enchanting scenery of the surrounding country side.
Above Saint Paul de Vence stands on the hill side The Fondation Maeght, a world known modern art museum that can boast having one of the most interesting modern art collections. the museum was built by a catalan architect Josep lluis Sert to which Giacometti, Miro, Chagall, Tall Coat, Braque, collaborated by creating on the grounds of the museum a space dedicated to art.
A visit not to be missed.
